Indian Railways - Serving You Better In the Years to Come

Indian Railways is one of the largest railway systems in the world. It started its operations with the first train running between Mumbai and Thane on the16th of April 1853. By the year 1929, there were 66,000 km of railway lines serving most of the districts in the country. The Metro made its mark for the first time in Kolkata in the year 1984.  The computerization of the tickets came into effect in Bombay for the first time in 1987 and the Konkan Railways began operating in 1997. It is said that this is one of the most arduous tasks accomplished by the railway given the sloppy and treacherous terrain of the Western Ghats.

Trains are the most efficient mode of transportation and the network functions under a single management. The growth and development of any country depends largely upon the mode of transportation and commutation. From this viewpoint, connecting a vast subcontinent has been a task well accomplished by the Indian Railways. The Railway operates nearly 14,000 trains every day. It has several classes of travel with or without air condition. Some of these services are Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Nilgiris Mountain Railway, Kalka Shimla Railway, Palace on Wheels, Deccan Odyssey, Samjhauta Express, Vivek Express, Himsagar Express, and so on.

Lifeline Express, which is known as “Hospital on Wheels”, is a special train that provides health care to rural areas in India. IRCTC is the online ticket-booking website available for easy and simple booking of a journey across the country. No doubt, Indian Railways promises to improve its output and efficiency along with the good and upgraded service to the country.
